Grades/Subjects Taught: Health Science Education Teaching Experience [years taught & location(s)]: 12.5 years, The last 8.5 years at Richland High School Education (Degrees, Certifications, Schools, etc.): I am a respiratory therapist by trade - Graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Columbia State Community College in 2003. I also played Softball at CSCC. I love health care but also have always had a passion for teaching. I fulfilled my Occupational Education licensure requirements from Tennessee State University and have been in the classroom since. I am fortunate to have worked in both healthcare and education in my career. I have the best of both careers in that I teach the medical profession to my students as a CTE teacher. Teaching Strategy/Philosophy: I live and teach by the following philosophy: we learn first by what we hear, second by what we see, and lastly by what we do. Hands-on education is the driving force of CTE courses and in my class, students receive a lot of hands-on educational opportunities. What/Who inspired you to become a teacher? I was inspired to teach by all the teachers I have had along the way which made learning fun, interesting, and exciting. Family/Background (spouse, children, hometown, church, etc.): I am from Mt. Pleasant and have lived in Giles County since 2008. My husband of 21 years Brandon Johnson, a Giles County native, and I built our home on my in-law's farm in Campbellsville. My husband is also a Respiratory Therapist and has worked at St Thomas Hospital in Nashville for over 20 years. We have 3 sons - Jacob Johnson who is 20 years old and a Richland High School graduate, resides in Fayetteville working as a Lineman School for FPU, Landon Johnson who is 18 years old, also a graduate from Richland and currently a student at CSCC, and Collin Johnson who is 14 and a Freshman at Richland. Being a teacher at Richland where my children attend has been amazing, the oldest two were students in my class and those are memories I will cherish forever. Hobbies: I love watching my sons play sports. I spend most afternoons and weekends at some type of sporting event watching my boys. I also love to travel with my family and friends; especially to Disney World and Panama City Beach.
